The Family Summit
Kronberg is the friendly outlier of the Alpstein, a grassy summit above Appenzell with a guesthouse, a long toboggan run and a view that takes in Santis and the lake country. The climb from Jakobsbad winds up through forest and open meadow, never technical but a solid morning of ascent. The cable car offers an easy way back down for tired legs.
Jakobsbad is on the Appenzeller Bahn between Gossau and Appenzell. A gondola runs to the summit if you want to walk up and ride down.
