The Day Everything Changed for Both of Us
The listing said eighteen months old, found as a stray, good with people once she trusts them. The kennel said she had been passed over four times. She pressed herself into the back corner and would not look up. We sat on the floor of that cold room for an hour and did not ask anything of her. Eventually she put her chin on my knee. That was the whole decision, made for us.

The car ride home. She shook until the third roundabout, then fell asleep on my coat and did not wake until the driveway.
