The Glacier Express links the two great Swiss resorts of Zermatt and St Moritz, and it is in no hurry at all. Across roughly eight hours it crosses 291 bridges, threads 91 tunnels and tops the Oberalp Pass at 2033 metres, all behind curved panoramic glass built for the view. The name is a gentle joke. This is the unhurried way to see the heart of the Alps, with a hot lunch served at your seat as the peaks slide past.
